Dreamers Who Inspire Us

Nancy Gets Going!

Nancy on her recumbent tricycleMy friend Roger talks about admiring the dream. While I understand his point, I seek to embrace the experience.  I adopted this view about 20 years ago when on a sailing vacation, I became disabled while walking to the bar to have a post race libation and enjoy the sunset.  The resulting three month hospital stay gave me time to evaluate my life.  Then and there I chose to put a smile on my face and do as much as possible to enhance my life.
My result...I became involved in differently abled sailing and have made friends from around the globe.  I continue to sail and have developed my skills.  And I took the time to develop the right side of my brain and embrace my art becoming an accomplished bead artist.  That endeavor led to even more friends from around the world.

Nancy on the lighter side!Through the ensuing years, different health challenges have given me many experiences to embrace. Near fatal meningitis and my original disability gave me insight into the depth of my 30+ year partner's love and commitment.  A lot of other people would have run, instead I have solid support filled with love.
Hip replacement convinced me that I should buy a 2.4mR and expand my sailing exposure.
Gastric bypass not only got me going on taking care of myself but probably saved my life because it uncovered a genetic heart defect.  So what if I ended up with open heart surgery...I'm stronger than ever and now riding a recumbent tricycle on a regular basis
Clearly any one of these incidents could have sidelined me from life.  Instead I chose to embrace the experiences with a smile!
