We awoke to rain trying to lull us back into sleeping longer. I dressed in my foul weather gear that I use for sailing. It is the first time during the trip I have put it all on.
We decided to get some hot coffee and breakfast before biking, to see if the rain would let up and what the forecast was going to be, but after eating in a spaceship style restaurant the rain still was falling. We packed all our things up soaking wet and headed over the Rainbow Bridge, to Niagra Falls on the U.S. side. We pulled over in a park and Neal and I got our bikes out. Dave decided to stay dry and rode on ahead with Paula for the day.
It rained pretty steadily for an hour and a half. I found riding without my sunglasses on was better than with them on. Typically I wear them to keep the glare out but also for bugs and and airborne debris too. Today the rain was making it difficult to see. It didn't seem to bother my eyes without them and increased my visability considerably.
Neal found us some good bike trails to stay on which led us through the back yards of some residential areas. By 2 o'clock it had slowed to only an occasional light drizzle and I was undressed to my regular biking attire. The light drizzle took the place of my typical perspiration and kept me cool. We stopped in Akron for lunch and a few beers at The Village Inn, a local pub which also had great food. Maria, the bartender, who was in her early 20's had lived in Akron all her life and liked it that way.
The Leisure Time campground we had all decided to meet at told us that they didn't allow tents, of course they didn't say that on their website which we checked the night before. I had also been in touch with my friend Billy Neal who met up with us and invited us back to stay at his house in Wyoming, about 10 miles further.
Billy took us to the Charcoal Corral Restaurant on Silver Lake. The restaurant covers all bases and has miniature golf, 2 drive in movies and an ice cream store and a pizza store. The owner Randy, is a great friend of Bill's and treated us all to dinner and to ice cream.
Bill and Linny live at the intersection of downtown Wyoming. The streets have real gas lights along the sides and large trees dropping colorful leaves in front of old beautiful homes. Linny has a beautiful garden surrounding her house and Neal and I are pitching our tents out there to enjoy the scenery!
